After a well-educated interior designer had unrolled an anti-war poster on Moscow’s Pushkin Square on Wednesday afternoon, the Moscow police showed up within minutes. He and the peaceful demonstrators condemn the use of Russian troops to invade Ukraine. Russian police arrested other peoples who had spoken out peacefully against the invasion. These peaceful protests stand in strong contrast to the public reaction in Russia when Moscow annexed Crimea from Ukraine eight years ago.

Russian residents protested for the second night in a row across the country. Russian citizens across the country took to the streets for the second night of nationwide protests against their country’s military assault on Ukraine. Thousands of Russians protested the Kremlin’s savage military assault in dozens of Russian cities, despite Russian authorities cracking down on demonstrations. The recorded news media of demonstrations from St. Petersburg showed hundreds of people assembled to call for peace in Ukraine.

Azure Orbital is partnering with ST Engineering iDirect to make software-based radio tools more available for space and satellite communications. Michigan State University group partners to harness the data revolution

Members of the Center for Systems Integration and Sustainability will use $1 million to collaborate on a new NSF-funded national initiative to understand climate change and disaster risks and affects. A Michigan State University sustainability scholar and his colleagues are partners in a new $15 million national initiative to enable geospatial data-driven scientific discovery aimed at understanding the risks and affects of climate change and disasters. MSU’s role, funded at about $1 million, will be to apply the tele coupling framework to disentangle the complexity of globalization, climate change, and natural disasters. The new institute will bring together about 40 researchers from U of I, MSU, Columbia University, Consortium of Universities for the Advancement of Hydrologic Science, Inc., Florida International University, Open Geospatial Consortium, Purdue University, University Consortium for Geographic Information Science, University Corporation for Atmospheric Research, University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, Utah State University, and a variety of other partners. NSF is investing $75 million to establish five new Harnessing the Data Revolution institutes as part of its “Big Idea” initiative.

Intelligence Agencies Pushed to Use More Commercial Satellites
